-My Mobile Day-

My Mobile Day has just started now. A Mobile Device is the most loyal partner in crime that you could never find.

I am wondering how many apps did you download on your main mobile devices?

In general, I have downloaded 40 apps on my main mobile device.

This summer, Ms.B bought a brand new mobile phone from Apple Store and this magical device has changed her life completely from inside to outside. Let me tell you a little background about her. She is a typical hardworking and outgoing university student at Ryerson University, who is studying and major in Media and Communication with a co-op program. A lot of people may have had experienced in losing and damaging their mobile phones accidentally. One day, Ms.B was rushing to the Go Train Station to catch the train to go to school in downtown in the morning. She started the engine and backing out her car from the driveway. “Ka-ka-ka!!!” A noise came out from the windows and she walked out from her car to check if there was an issue with her car. 30 seconds later, she started crying loudly.

Can you guess what happened to her before this summer?

If you have already guessed it, then you are on the right track. Yes, she damaged her mobile device because she drove on it three times while she was backing out from her car. However, this was a huge and sad story behind the reason to get a whole new mobile device. Also, this depressing story changed her life afterwards.

A typical boring Tuesday morning, Ms.B opened her eyes and trying to reach out her mobile device from the night table. Since it was still really dark in her room, so she could not use face recognition to unlock her mobile device. Once she typed in her password, she was shocked by some loud noise that came from her mobile device. When she has been turning off the wi-fi connection for a while, she got a lot of notifications from all the apps she owned on her mobile device. The loud noise was coming from WhatsApp, Yahoo Mail, and Instagram.

Ms.B has many relatives and friends live in Hong Kong and WhatsApp was always the first app she would like to open after she opened her eyes in the morning every day. WhatsApp is a messenger type of contact software that provides free calls, video calls, normal chat conversation, and multi types of media sharing. She likes to connect with her relatives and friends in Hong Kong and keeps tracking the updates of the breaking news in Hong Kong due to the current situation there. She wants to know what is happening instantly while she can get more information there within a group chat conversation or individual conversation. By receiving photos, videos, text, and voice messages, it is the most convenient messenger app over the world. She used this mobile app the most through her university life from day-to-night.

Yahoo Mail is an email type of app on a mobile device. It is the second app she checks in her daily life because she is constantly checking for job interview’s invitation. She wants to know if she is getting any interview’s invitation and she is also worried about if the email jumps into her spam folder.

After she got out of her bed, she went to the bathroom and started to get ready for school. Since she needed to catch the Go Train, she always headed to McDonald’s for breakfast take-out. She would quietly be waiting at the curbside spot and process her order. McDonald’s created this useful and convenient mobile app for people to get special deals and different offers every day or every week. McD’s is a restaurant ordering app. Ms.B got a $1 coffee with large size and a sausage and egg McMuffin for $2.69 one day ago. She wants to buy breakfast for a better price with a special promotion every day. The reason why she likes to use this app often is that she could purchase the same McMuffin for a cheaper price because she owned the app on her mobile device, and she made an order through the app. This mobile app is the less use of her life because she used this app only once a day while she opened the other four apps for more than 2 times a day.

Then, she drove to the Go Train Station and parked her car. While waiting for the train to come, she would stay inside her car and start checking out her Instagram foodie account and personal account. She wants to know what the new trend on Instagram is and the news in Toronto. It is a social media type of mobile app. She usually spent time on it when she wants to stay away from reality, means school and work. Instagram allows people to post and share shorten-length of videos and 10 photos at a post. Nowadays, the Instagram story is the newest trend for this generation. It is one of the favourite features and functions that Ms.B likes to use.

Ms.B realize that there are many apps that she would be spending data on so that she found a new way to spend her time on the train. It is now in November, which means that Ms.B has less than two months to find her co-op offer before graduation. The new way to spend time on the train is using Indeed. It is an employment type of mobile app that provides lots of job posting and information about jobs. After she bought the iPhone XR, she downloaded Indeed for free because she was getting tired of staring at the website on her laptop. This app is very efficient because of the functions it has. When Ms.B once uploaded her resume on Indeed’s system, she could apply for any job posting instantly with her resume by clicking the apply now button on her mobile device. She wants to do is to find herself a decent and stable co-op job which can help her to work for that company afterwards.

I am sure there are a lot of people have had encountered mobile frictionin their life.

When I was using the mobile device, I suddenly lost the internet connection that pissed me off so much.
When I tried to order food and drink in the app McD’s, the system couldn’t find my current location and took a long period of time that pissed me off so much.
When I tried to publish my post on Instagram, the restriction of limited hashtags usage pissed me off so much.

This user’s insight:
“I can’t live without my mobile device. It is the lifesaver for me that tells me everything I want to know, do, and buy. The most loyal partner in crime.”

Ms.B has been changing a lot since she bought her new iPhone because she treasures the opportunity to own a personal mobile device. Now, it is very important for her and she regrets being careless before. Since this is the last semester for her school program, she is in a hurry to find a suitable co-op placement to be graduated in April. Some of her friends may laugh at her saying that she is being too picky at the offer’s selections. She believes that this mobile device is giving her the luck to find her placement. These five apps that she spends the most time on changed her life. She was not a typical organized girl before. She became less clumsy, be careful, organized, smart, efficient, and fast-paced. She called out that this iPhone XR is her new partner in crime.
