Cross-Channel in MKT

In MKT(Marketing), there is always a bridge that connects all kinds of marketing channels as one unit. What is the first impression or thought that may come to your mind when people mention ‘marketing’? It is a department and field which contains a variety of marketing specializations. A public bridge connects point A to point B. For instance, from the product marketing division to the social media marketing division.

  1. Connection:
There’s a connection between each marketing division. It is always linkable for each team player. For example, graphic design specialists provide graphic creations to social media specialists, email specialists and website specialists for campaign launches and daily publishing.

  2. Alignment:
When launching a new product or service to the public, the marketing department advertises it on all channels at once. Alignment is very important for marketing because content, graphics, information, details, theme and product photos need to be lined up. Therefore, the audience will be able to receive the same message through all channels that are advertised by the marketing department at the same moment.
  3. Pros:
For money wise, business partners are willing to invest in multi-channel advertising as a marketing media kit or package deal. For internal branding and advertising use, the marketing department can set up paid ads on multiple channels at the same period.(maybe 1-2 weeks setting)
  4. Cons:
Cross-channel may contain lots of humanity work, time, communication, matching, discussion, meeting, tryout, or failure on agreeing on ideas…etc. A major con of cross-channel is that AI(Artificial Intelligence) can replace a few marketing roles such as email, content creation, graphic design, social media and product marketing, but AI may not be able to replace some engaging marketing roles like Public Relations, communications, event, website, B2B or B2C.
With advanced technology improvement, AI like ChatGPT will eventually replace many marketing roles but it won’t be able to build relationships, connections, and alignment with other marketing channels.

Which marketing channel takes the biggest part of the department?

Nothing stands out as the most important division because Marketing is built with all the channels as one unit. With that being said, each team player from the marketing department plays an important role in sharing and receiving information from other channels.

“Marketing is about values. It’s a complicated and noisy world, and we’re not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. No company is. So we have to be really clear about what we want them to know about us.”

– Steve Jobs, Co-Founder, Apple

What makes you a Professional Marketer?

Knowing who your target (audience) customers are.
Then, you will start questioning…how?
This is all about having a strong and well-prepared marketing plan before moving to the next action.
Research, Preparation, Competition Research

1st, you will need to do a deep research on information and details about your business industry and product or services.

2nd, well preparation needs to be done before moving on to the next step in the procedure. Preparation includes all aspects such as the segmentation from your CRM and it is possible to create a persona for your project.

3rd, it is significant to gather updated information and research results on the competition. This helps you and your business to target your audience accurately with knowing what is the best and suitable price and products on the market.

How to keep your customers happy and satisfied about your products and services?

Strategic plan and understand what is the Customer Retention for your BRAND.

How to advertise with the 6W?
(Who? Why? What? When? Where? How?)

WHO is your target customer?
WHY do you need to promote your brand?
WHAT is the result you want after the ad is being published?
WHEN is the best time for advertising your products and services?
WHERE will you advertise your brand?
HOW are you going to promote it?

There are so much more for you and your team that need to focus on.
Starting with 6W, it can always get you a handful and useful beginning before you put any budget for all paid Ad(advertisement). It is definitely very important to know small details before spending your money on advertising.
You may set up a clear idea on what’s the overall Funnel & ROAS(Return on Ad Spend), ROI(Return on Investment) and KPI(Key Performance Indicator) with a set time schedule on your Marketing calendar.

In the Marketing Department, there should be a team with different divisions. Each person is responsible for a different category. Detailed divisions break into Data Analyst, Budget Planning, Advertising, Social Media, Email Marketing, Content Creation, Graphic Design, Videographic and Photographic, Product Marketing, B2B(Business-to-Business), B2C(Business-to-Customer), Media Communication, Account Management, Market Research Analyst, SEO(Search Engine Optimization), SEM(Search Engine Marketing), Branding, and Public Relations…e.t.c.

What makes a strong and powerful Marketing Team?
Good leadership leads a team with experienced skills and a strong knowledge mindset. When the team is all working on different divisions, this makes the marketing plan, research project and campaign more cost-efficient and time-saving.

What makes you a professional marketer?

You must know what your goal is before operating any further movement and actions.
Always Plan ahead, before getting approval.

Last but not least…
You are always on a trendy mode with all the updated news and trends. Things can always be found on Radio Channels, Social Media Channels, Email Newsletter, Magazine, Big Brand Websites (e.g. Apple, Google, Wikipedia, Tesla and other brands), Media(e.g. Forbes or other news, National Calendar, Awareness on special dates on government official calendar, News about Celebrities, and social circles(connect with people in different industries and different countries).

All the above are useful for branding and updating your knowledge. Your enrichment is the most expensive asset for the company and brand.

WHAT IF YOUR JOB POSITION WILL BE REPLACED?

If you will be replaced by AI (Artificial Intelligence) and robots, are you okay with that?

The Future Of Work
Are you replaceable? Honestly, I might be replaced in the future since the Artificial Intelligence system has been developed quite successfully. Many restaurants have started using robots to deliver meals and products to customers within their stores. Many brands have been using the chatbot system to solve their customer service duties and it helps them cut down some budgets on human labours or hiring issues. Who as a human can stay up 24/7 through 365 days? No one can be doing this normally every day, but AI and robots may be able to run long enough until it gets worn out.

Chatbot is an intelligent and advanced feature that helps humans to avoid time wasting and money wasting. It allows people to provide an automatic responding or messaging function based on the company’s problem shooting questions and answers.

Online Banking
Now, why do we still take the risk and queue for those long lineups for banking in-person during this pandemic?
When you can just click a button online and do your banking safely at home, there is no need to travel to the bank in-person unless it involves a huge amount of money transaction. AI can easily replace those front line customer service representatives. When more and more humans are using the online website or mobile app to access their bank accounts, in-person banking becomes less convenient.
On the other hand, when humans are relying on digital technologies, it is easier for hackers or frauds to exist in our society.
WE DO NEED TO BE AWARE AND CAREFUL While using AI, robots, digital technologies and the internet.

Retail Stores
More and more retail stores are using self-checkout cashier machines in North America. In Canada, many retail stores have put budgets into installing self-checkout cashier machines.
Does it mean the career of being a normal cashier will be replaced within years?
Honestly, there is no guarantee and yes the cashier might be completely replaced shortly.
It can simply assist humans for transactions with only a scanner and touch pad. The benefits are greater than the cons. When a customer scans a wrong item, an in-store worker needs to scan a staff card for the override function. It saves up so much time for retail stores to reduce the huge lineups situation or customer complaint on lack of cashiers problem. An AI function which can help humans to be more efficient and advanced. In most situations, retail stores often have positive thoughts after installing self-checkout.

If the whole planet becomes an AI based society, what will it be?

Digital world and advanced technologies are fabulous individually, but we as humans still need physical interactions and relationships with others. Does technology make us connected efficiently or does it make us further away from others during COVID-19?

BACK TO NORMAL SOON?

Back to Normal soon?
This could be a controversial topic in our society.I believe that the majority of us just want things going back to normal or back to a place where we can all have a normal social life or gatherings with friends, relatives and colleagues.

Reading the news and updates on social media platforms, there was a lot of content regarding to COVID-19, vaccine, lockdown or essential purchasing…e.t.c…however, no one can ever predict what’s the possibility of completely going back to normal or when we can start travelling internationally. Many media outlets have been posting and updating online about Ontario students possibly going to school in-person and residential on school campus starting in September 2021. It seems like a good tendency moving forward to a status of “back to normal” which the majority of Ontarionians
(https://slangdefine.org/o/ontarionian-22b5.html)  have been praying for since the unpredictable circumstance began in 2019.

What’s the word to describe your impression if we are successfully going back to normal?
Thankful / Finally / Oh, yes / No More Please / That’s it / Well Done / Let’s move on!

What is the 1st thing will you do when we go back to normal?
1. Seeing friends and relatives
2. Travelling internationally and across Canada
3. Shopping with all essential and non essential items
4. Visiting friend’s house
5. Dine in at restaurants
6. Taking public transportation to downtown Toronto
7. Road Trip across Canada and the States
8. Taking a trip to Asia
9. Going to casino
10. Seeing animals in a zoo

Mask on, move on.
Although things might go back to normal, we cannot act like nothing has happened since 2019. COVID-19 should be recorded in our history because of the unpredictable events and dramatical effect. Health and safety protocol and guidelines must follow in order to move on.

Things you don’t want to do when going back to normal.
1. No more hand sanitizer because it dries out my hands since the pandemic started.
2. No more 6-feet apart so we can act like normal humans.
3. No more lockdown, so we can get to meet and hangout with friends and relatives.

Pack your suitcase, travel internationally.
In my opinion, normal travelling is not essential and would not be recommended. Before COVID-19 arrived, travelling and taking flights were usually a luxury activity for many people who are not growing up in a first class and middle-class family. Now, it became a fear for humans just to imagine wearing a mask and staying inside a plane for hours or more. It could be an act of high risk during this pandemic.

Social life with friends and relatives safely and healthily.
Normal social life is a must for humans especially when everyone is also encountering the same situation worldwide. We need support, love and care from others in order to stand up and fight against this virus. Please support each other and stay strong.

Time to have more outdoor activities.
Hiking, biking, driving, jogging…e.t.c.

Let’s enjoy the rest of the summer.

Do not want this again.
It’s a nightmare no one ever wants it to survive.

Is this the wrong time to start a business? It depends……

Before starting a business, normal research and preparation are a must. There are many quizzes to test if you are a good entrepreneur or what type of business suits you to start up with. Most people got stuck with 2020’s situation and environmental affect. In fact, it was just a start for everyone to have a chance starting up their own businesses worldwide.

In 2021, it seems like the majority of human beings are getting used to essential life, which means essential purchasing, equipment, materials, activities, medical supplies, workplace, workers, jobs, environment…e.t.c. This essential trend has evolved our human’s lives into a digital world.

So why can everyone become a business owner?

As long as you own a digital device such as a cell phone, tablet, iPad or laptop, you may connect with the digital media marketing world. App (application) and the internet allow humans to link accounts and sending or sharing information across the world. For instance, Instagram and TikTok are two popular trending social media platforms (App). Once you use your account, content, information, and creations wisely, you may gain followers, likes, impressions, fans, clicks, shares, comments, views, brand awareness, and even…money. Eventually, everyone can be a popular entrepreneur who starts their own brand on any social media platform.

Things need to be aware:

Choosing the right path isn’t hard, but starting a business with the correct concept is very simple. Ensuring your business direction is always moving forward and keep expanding the size of it.

1. Pick the accurate type of business you want to invent and invest in.
2. Follow your heart and think deeply of what your interest, hobby and you are good at.

3. Avoid choosing something you have never done it before. (It may help to prevent from failure.)
4. Need to be passionate about your decision. (You cannot suddenly give up without trying hard.)

5. Have to be organized with content creation schedule, timetable, and well-planning with time using. (This can avoid time wasting and content being overlapped.)

6. To build your brand awareness and good foundation, you need to be patient and tough. (There will be lots of ups and downs during the process, but you need to keep it up or else you will lose it quickly.)

7. Don’t be lazy and get engaged with people. (Launching social media campaigns, publishing Instagram story poll posts, interacting with comments, sending out direct messages to your followers or other influencers, scheduling a live video once in a while…e.t.c.)

If you do well with your page, there will be sponsors from the market asking to pay you for promotional and advertising campaigns with their brands. Nothing is impossible because no one can predict what will happen in the next second. Some entrepreneurs are good at singing, dancing, drawing, making art creation, TedTalk, talking, selling, modelling, video editing, photo editing, cooking, eating, coding, writing, makeup, beauty care, cars, camera, gaming, voice-overing, acting, directing, producing, driving, planting, educating, formatting, investing, filing, studying, teaching, banking, hand crafting, hiking, running, bodybuilding, yoga, computer, real estate, lego, fashion, digital marketing, business, electrical work, construction, installation, technology…… There are many more businesses you can start up with as long as you are extremely passionate about it.

A lot of influencers have a full time job on their daily basis. These creators usually went viral after other people posting or publishing videos of them with interesting content. In fact, there were lots of viral videos of people doing surprising things like a dentist can sing well, a doctor can dance well, a banker can teach well, a financial investor can cook well, a teacher can act well or a realtor can design well. These types of people were lucky to start up with a strong foundation of their own brand awareness and impressions, but they still need to manage their pages and brands as well. If not, everything will go downhill and number of followers can be decreased.

Business is hard to maintain when you have to pay for rent, facilities, supplies, employees, hydro, or furniture. But what if…your business becomes online and digitized?
What are your concerns?

The distance between humans will get closer by using online softwares to expand the workplace environment digitally. At work, by using common online softwares such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, or Google Hangouts, you are able to connect with staff, colleagues, vendors, clients, students, teachers, parents, or business partners virtually. In 2020, our advanced technological society was enhanced and led humans moving forward during the pandemic.

1. Attending school became attending online virtual classes at home.

2. Having any type of conference meeting became an online virtual video meeting. (meeting or job interview)

3. Shopping became online shopping with E-Commerce platforms like Amazon, Ebay, Kijiji, or Shopify, App, and other web support.

4. In-store pick up became curbside, drive-thru, or home delivery.

5. Seeing doctors at the clinic became a phone clinic.

PICK the RIGHT INDUSTRY FOR YOURSELF, LESS WORRIES and LESS ECONOMICALLY CONCERNS.

Giver or Taker

GIVER or TAKER

I started to read this book called “GIVE AND TAKE” by author Adam Grant.
For this blog, I am going to share my personal thoughts and reading notes based on this theme.

We all see things differently.

“GIVE AND TAKE”- Adam Grant
Highlighting some meaningful quotations picked from the book written by Adam Grant.

Good Return
“The principle of give and take; that is diplomacy- give one and take ten.” Mark Twain, author and humorist

Quotation: According to conventional wisdom, highly successful people have 3 things in common: motivation, ability, and opportunity. If we want to succeed, we need a combination of hard work, talent, and luck. (Grant)

Quotation: Every time we interact with another person at work, we have a choice to make: do we try to claim as much value as we can, or contribute value without worrying about what we receive in return. (Grant)

Quotation: Takers have a distinctive signature: they like to get more than they give.
Givers are a relatively rare breed. Whereas takers tend to be self-focused, evaluating what other people can offer them, givers are other-focused, paying more attention to what other people need from them.
(Grant)

TAKERS vs GIVERS

TAKERSGIVERS
PROSIn Marketing, being a taker is always a lead in a team and usually this character is likely to have a loud voice. He or she gets the power to demand orders to others. They need to give one suggestion out and take ten tactics from others.Since this type of person is very easy-going, always tolerant and willing to share things with others, he or she tends to have more friends or supporters. When they need help, these helpers are usually willing to provide assistance or help in most circumstances.
CONSSince this type of person tends to have an aggressive personality, he or she often offends other people easily. It’s hard to find teammates to support their tactics or strategic plan because others won’t be loyal to him or her. This type of character mostly works alone. They need to sacrifice a lot: time, money, spare time, willingness, patience, and extra workload……etc…. He or she usually lacks something in life because of their scarification at work or life. For example, spending spare time to do extra workload after work. This can cause less personal time with his or her family after work. Another weakness is that he or she often becomes a helper for others in life and living under others’ control or demand.

I am a…
70
% GIVER + 30% TAKER

  1. Spent Over Time @ Work without any compensation
Purpose: I want to finish my work days before the deadline
  2. Helping others for different department @ Work
Purpose: Seeing others being so busy and wanted to give them a hand
  3. Organizing some old works, files and folders from previous former co-workers
Purpose: I want to make documents organized and easier to sort things out in the future.

70% is what I could provide in different aspects, and 30% is the purpose I have planned. The 30% Taker is the purpose of the key point- what I can take from that move or activity. For instance, I mentioned about doing something for future use at point #3. The action is that it could help me or other staff to SAVE TIME and that’s the TAKE action.

I believe for every movement, we do have a purpose behind.

In every workplace, we are experiencing different treatments from others. Sometimes, we act differently depending on the perspective, occupation, standpoint, situation, and relationship with the speaker or listener. We rarely get treated fairly in life. At work, if your title is higher, you get a louder voice and if your position is entry level then your behaviour will be opposite.

No matter if you are a giver or taker, we should try our hardest to treat everyone equally. We all deserve to receive help and love in life or at work.

Story of 2020 – 2021

My Own Experience- B2B & B2C

2020 was such a roller coaster scenario. Getting back to a normal lifestyle isn’t easy, especially because I lost my job during a pandemic period back in March. Luckily, the COVID situation was slowing down a bit in summer 2020 so I decided to search for a full time job. After a month, I received a job offer and started working in August 2020.

During the job search process and hunting process were not fun, but it was all about how much you have experienced throughout the period.

My current job position allows me to understand both B2B and B2C.

I believe that I can now apply the skills I have learned at graduate school for Digital Media Marketing.

No one was expecting everything to become online since pandemic. I’m extremely thankful that I have decided to do more schooling after university. Virtual job interviews, meetings, and classes became something I am very familiar with before 2020 started.

Sharing my experience in B2B & B2C:

Unlike the knowledge I’ve learned from textbooks and lectures, we do need to gain these hands-on experiences by ourselves. For my company, we have to deal with both B2B and B2C relationships between our company and others.

Let’s break it into B2B first, we do need to work closely with our partners because you do not want to ruin the healthy relationship with them. Good communication skills are the major key for any industry or business field. There are lots of reports, price inquiries, emails and calls getting involved in all kinds of business. Negotiation is one of the significant techniques or strategies whenever a problem needs to be resolved.

If I could, I would like to describe B2C as a main course of a business’s menu.
If I could, I might describe B2C as the front line soldier in a civil war.

You may think I am a bit overextratorated, in fact, every type of business also needs a customer service department in order to prevent and filter out those negativity or depressing comments against the company.

For example, customer service needs to provide every customer the same service experience and solve all problems as soon as possible. Complaints, refunds, returns, or missing shipments are some of the common tasks that occur in most industry fields. When I describe the main course of the menu, every business always starts with a strong and stable foundation which is a customer service team.

10 Awesome Tips To Help Your B2B & B2C Content Marketing Efforts

To develop an effective content strategy & create your unique content for your business.

Throughout the use of defining Who, What, Where, When, Why and How, the marketers can be able to write and create their unique content for their businesses. These following tips can guide you a better vision of learning how to differentiate your brand versus other brands. B2B and B2C Marketing have many differences and similarities, and both types of Marketing need to follow the same structure of basic guideline.

Let me share the background’s knowledge of B2B & B2C Marketing, and two examples of these two types of businesses.

Example for B2B: John Deere (a company that manufactures agricultural, construction, and forestry machinery, diesel engines, drivetrains used in heavy equipment, and lawn care equipment)
For B2B Marketing, it is the businesses between the company with the partners and vendors. Content marketing can be shared and reposted from those partners and vendors. B2B Marketing allows the company to work closely with its customers and mostly provides a closer relationship with their customers. The most important thing about this type of marketing is to build a strong relationship with their customers. Also, they usually share the work improvement, best practices and project’s schedules. It is less price-sensitive for their sales and has a consultative selling which is based on the understanding of consumer’s need and the relationship of trust. B2B Marketing usually has few customers in comparison to B2C Marketing.

Example for B2C: McDonald’s (fast food company who sells food and drinks services)
For B2C Marketing, it usually links to brand such as McDonald’s and Coca-Cola. It is an impersonal business with mass communication that sell products or services to consumers. B2C is a short-term business that provides a business relationship between products or services with customers. It is often stimulated by marketing and extremely value-sensitive, unlike B2B Marketing. Furthermore, it has a larger customer base.

  1. Knowing who is your target audience:
Be clear on targeting which type of person while creating your content.
B2B: partners and vendors; B2C: brands and a mass of consumers
  2. To Set your specific business goal for the content:
Why are you creating this content marketing for your business? Creating at least 2 content ideas for your specific business goal and focusing on what your company or organization looks forward to achieving from it.
  3. Set up a designated persona:
Who, What, Where, When & Why
Who is the persona? (brainstorm one type of person from your target audience base)
What is her character in the story/situation? What will her typical day look like while making a rationale or sharp decision of making a purchase? (B2B: rationale decision; B2C: sharp decision)
Where is he/she standing at while considering of making a purchase? (what stage/phase)
When will he/she approach to finish up the deal?
Why does she concern or aware of your brand/company, not just focusing on the specific product item?
  4. Old vs New Content:
Comparing your company’s previous works in content marketing and your new one. Differentiate your story from history and your competitions. Share a different story to your audience. Highlight the key elements of the changes in the newest version of content marketing.
E.g. Emphasize the new feature of McDonald’s mobile order in the new content marketing while promoting the service.
  5. Q&A:
Asking questions based on ‘Why is that important to……?’ Make some notes during the process of answering those questions.
E.g. Why is that important to know about your new arrival products?
These Why’s questions and answers help you as a marketer to build strong knowledge and understanding of your audience’s interest.
  6. Mission Possible:
Fulfil your mission by starting with some fantastic concept ideas.
E.g. Increase member loyalty or boost seasonal promotions.
When you make a clear statement of your mission, you can follow the concept and create a bigger picture of it. Once you set up a mission to complete, it is possible to be succeed.
  7. Get feedback from the others(A/B Testing):
Double check with your draft of content creation and graphic design on it. You can create two different versions of storytelling. If it is necessary, then you can do an ‘A/B Testing’ with your work peers and managers before showing to your boss. Get feedback from others and make changes for the content before publishing it online or offline.
  8. Your Competition:
In the same industry, you want your brand to stand out from the others. You want to share the best things about your company to the audience. Knowing who is your competitor is an essential step because you want to differentiate yours to the audience. Both B2B and B2C Marketing need to target their services and products to specific group of consumers. In this case, B2C needs to put more efforts on researching of its competitions because of the large size of consumer’s need.
  9. After the party, let’s celebrate!
Follow these 3 key points: The Team, The Workflow, and The Tactical Plan.
The Team:who will be involved in the creation process, you need to divide specific tasks to each member of the team.
The Workflow: make a schedule plan; you need to be clear on all the tasks and date in order to organize with different steps.
The Tactical Plan: create a plan that includes topic to be covered, channels (which platforms) to publish, quality standards, guidelines, and measurement plan. (B2C Marketing needs to be aware while planning all of these elements because it usually publishes to the public online with a larger amount of audience either return customers or new consumers)
  10. The major 3 components of the finale:
Organizing the structured calendar, create your unique guidelines and make your channel plan.

Content Format:Infographic, video, podcast & blog article help with engagement, multimedia and deliver online

E.g. Apple
6 days ago, Apple has launched a promotional video of content marketing on its new product that shot on iPhone 11 Pro on social media platform YouTube.

Long-form Written Content:Report(trends, thought leadership), Ebook/Guide (educational, teach/learn), Case Study (product/service then to meet the client’s need) & White Paper(How does the product/service use)

E.g. John Deere
In October, John Deere has launched its evergreen marketing content on its official website, sharing information and content about High-Water Mark.

However, different formats will be applied to different marketing situations. For B2B, marketers need to provide a formal written style and its content can be more concise because of the closer relationship. For B2C, marketers usually create interesting and less serious content marketing like social media posts because of the mass consumers in public.
